Pro tip: a piece of clear tape saved a wedding bouquet from wilting in the heat

Had a July wedding in Phoenix, the bride's peonies were drooping before the ceremony. I remembered an old trick and put a small strip of clear packing tape around the base of each stem, right under the flower head. It seals the cut and slows water loss. They perked up and lasted through the photos. Anyone else have a go-to fix for heat-sensitive blooms?

Tried that with some sad roses last summer. I also dunk the whole bouquet in ice water for like ten minutes right before it's needed. The cold shock buys you a couple hours.

But @singh.uma is it really worth all that work for just a few extra hours?

Honestly I skip the ice bath and just cut the stems again right before putting them out. Found that keeping them in cool, not cold, water with the flower food works better for a full day. The cold shock can sometimes make the petals bruise faster in my experience.
