You said getting the details right helps your case, which makes sense. But why does the exact year matter so much here, is it more about the act itself? If we bring it up wrong, it might look like we don't even care about the history.

Getting the year right is part of respecting the people who took that risk. We owe it to them to tell their story properly, even if it means double checking first.
