Finally got the hang of that new core shooter at the Detroit plant

After three weeks of trial and error, the shift lead showed me the exact air pressure setting that made the difference. Anyone else have a trick for keeping the sand mix consistent in humid weather?

My uncle worked at a foundry in Toledo and they swore by adding a little extra bentonite clay to the sand mix when the humidity spiked. He said it helped the molds hold their shape better during those muggy summer days. They'd adjust it by feel, maybe a half-pound extra per batch. It wasn't in the manual, just one of those old-timer tricks that got passed down.

Guess they never had to read the manual, huh?

Bentonite helps, but adding too much can actually make the sand brittle when it dries. A dehumidifier near the sand hopper works better for humidity control.
