I finally caved and bought the 'smart' egg tray that tells you how old your eggs are.
It beeped at 3 AM for a week straight because it thought my breakfast was a month old, so I threw it out and just started writing dates on the carton with a sharpie. Anyone else have a gadget that tried way too hard to solve a simple problem?

Honestly, the sharpie is the way to go. I had a "smart" water pitcher that would flash lights if it hadn't been refilled in 12 hours. It was a nightmare during a power outage. Some of these things just create new problems, like @jackson.jenny said, they're just looking for a reaction. Now I stick with simple stuff that doesn't need to be plugged in or talk to an app. If a gadget has more buttons than my microwave, I don't buy it anymore.
