Pro tip: check your attic insulation before winter hits

Last January I noticed my upstairs was freezing no matter how high I cranked the heat. Turns out the previous owner had shoved old newspapers in the gaps instead of proper insulation, cost me an extra $150 on my gas bill that month. Anyone else find weird stuff their house's previous owner tried to hide?

Honestly, did you find any hidden mouse nests with those newspapers too?

Did you try stacking them flat or standing them up? I had the same problem last year with old papers in my shed. Standing them up against the wall made it way easier to spot droppings before they turned into a full nest. I also started putting them in plastic bins with tight lids, which solved the problem completely. That stopped the mice from even getting near them.
