TIL that 'quick start' guide for my new phone cost me $80
I bought a new phone last week and the box had a card for a 'premium setup service' for $80. It promised to transfer all my stuff and teach me the new features. I thought it sounded great to save time, so I paid. The guy on the phone just read the same basic instructions from the manual I had in my hand! He didn't do anything I couldn't have done in ten minutes by myself. The whole call lasted maybe 15 minutes and he rushed through it. I feel so silly for not just looking up a free video. Has anyone else fallen for one of these paid help services that turned out to be useless?

Wait they charged you eighty bucks just to read the manual back to you? That's insane.

Sounds like they're banking on people being too busy or nervous to try it themselves. Makes you wonder how much they actually train those "experts" versus just handing them a script.

Oh my god, right? I bet the "expert training" is just them learning to sound confident while they flip to the index. For eighty dollars they should at least throw in a comforting pat on the shoulder.
