Had a crazy week where my Google Business profile started working again out of nowhere
So last Tuesday I woke up and checked my phone, and I had 15 new calls from people who found my bakery on Google Maps. That's normally what I get in a month, not a day. I run a small pie shop in Portland, and for the past 3 months my listing has just been dead, like no one could find us. I didn't change anything, didn't post new photos or respond to reviews any different than before. But for some reason that Tuesday and Wednesday my profile just exploded with views and clicks. I'm still trying to figure out if Google rolled out some update or if I just got lucky with the algorithm. Anyone else seen a random spike like this where you can't pin down why it happened?

Nah I gotta disagree with you on this one. You're acting like Google just randomly blessed your pie shop for no reason, but algorithms don't work like that. I bet you updated something without realizing it, maybe a new photo or your hours, and that's what kicked it off.

Well @sarah198, you're assuming people actually notice small changes like that and I'm not convinced most pie shop owners are that on top of things. Did you have a specific update in mind that you think would trigger that kind of visibility boost? Just wondering what you'd pinpoint as the likely culprit.

Three years ago my shop got a random traffic spike in July and I swore it was just a glitch or seasonal thing, ignored it completely. Then a friend who runs a bakery in Portland told me about how Google was quietly pushing small businesses that updated their Google Business profiles with fresh photos every 30 days. I went back and checked my own timeline and realized I had uploaded a new dessert case photo right before that spike. It clicked for me after that, small updates definitely matter even if they feel invisible to us.
