Question about my cousin who told me memes would never get anyone to actually change their vote after I made a parody of a local candidate in Detroit

I spent 3 hours in Paint.net making that thing and it ended up getting shared 800 times in the neighborhood Facebook group before the city council race even started, so honestly who was wrong here, has anyone else had a dumb simple meme do way more than you expected?

800 shares is solid for a local race meme. Did your cousin ever actually try making one themselves, or was it just talk from the sidelines?

Respectfully disagree, man. Memes absolutely change votes, maybe not for president but definitely for local races. My friend made a joke picture of our school board member photoshopped onto a potato and it got 2,000 shares before the election, the guy actually lost by 400 votes. Tbh people scroll past serious posts but they stop and laugh at dumb memes, then they remember that name when they're in the booth.
