Rant: How I stopped feeling scattered by blocking out my work day
I mean, I don't get how startup founders manage everything without losing their minds. In my landscaping company, I'm constantly switching between talking to clients, planning jobs, and doing the physical work. It got to the point where I was all over the place. So I tried setting fixed times for each type of task. Like, I only answer emails and calls for two hours in the morning. This helped me focus and actually finish things. I wonder if other founders have found tricks like this useful. Having a schedule really saved my sanity.

Hold on, blocking out time is a solid start, but it's not just about the schedule. I tried something similar and realized that if emergencies pop up, my whole plan falls apart. You have to leave some FLEX time for the unexpected stuff that always happens in a business. Otherwise, you're just setting yourself up for stress when things don't go perfectly. It's more about being flexible within your blocks than sticking to them rigidly.

Yeah good point. So how much flex time do you actually leave in a day (you know, since emergencies always pop up)? Like specific chunks or just whatever's left over?

My boss made us block our calendars for deep work every Wednesday afternoon. It kinda works like your method, except brian_martin75 is right about needing that flex time because the printer always catches fire. Honestly the schedule just makes me feel better about ignoring some messages.
