inHot take: Our shop's push for quick fixes is hurting real skill
Oh boy, your boss wants everything done in a day? That's like expecting a perfect job in five minutes! No wonder fillers pop after rain when you rush through the job. Maybe we should start calling it 'speed painting' instead of auto repair! But seriously, it sucks when quality takes a back seat just to make quick cash. Hope you can find a way to slow them down without getting in trouble!

inJust realized how many repair jobs now start with a phone video.
Totally agree about losing the feel. Video calls skip the subtle details you pick up in person. For some jobs, that first visit is still key.

inAppreciation post: A nurse's request for pet alerts flipped my thinking on security
Actually it's funny because looking back, I don't think the pet itself changed my thinking. What changed me was realizing why I made the request in the first place. Like when my kid begged for a dog, saying it was about responsibility. But after we got one, I saw it was really about him wanting a reason to go outside more. The pet was just the way to get there.

inJust realized paper sketches save me from CAD rework. I was all digital before. How do you kick off a new drawing?
In 2020, I thought paper sketches were just extra steps. After wasting hours on CAD rework, I tried a legal pad like hugoj13 mentioned. Now I sketch first every time, so why did I ever skip it?

inWhy I started writing down every job detail after a costly mix-up
That's why @elizabeth_perry, everything needs a paper trail now.
