Shoutout to Taipei's night markets embracing digital payments

Any tours adapting to cashless street food scenes?

The move to digital payments in Taipei's night markets is honestly brilliant. I'm still the guy who drops cash in the street food grease, so maybe I need to evolve. It makes sense for tours to adapt because nothing kills a food crawl vibe like waiting for change. I've seen some guides use group QR codes so everyone can pay their share instantly, which is slick. This shift probably helps vendors too, with less cash handling and better sales tracking. Overall, it's a win-win, even if my clumsy self has to learn new tricks.

Isn't this move to digital payments actually excluding a bunch of people? I've watched tourists without local SIM cards or the right apps get totally stranded when a vendor refuses cash, which seems backwards for a street market. Those transaction fees aren't nothing for small vendors, and now they're on the hook for tech issues and bank charges instead of just handling simple cash. The whole point of a night market is the messy, human hustle, and reducing everything to a QR code scan kinda sanitizes the experience, lol. Sure, it's slick for some, but it pushes out anyone not plugged into that specific system.

Yeah, @the_henry, I read an article saying Taipei's night market vendors reported fewer cash shortages and faster customer turnover with digital pay. One vendor mentioned his sales went up because he could serve more people during peak hours without fumbling for change. The piece also noted that popular apps like Line Pay and JKO Pay are widely accepted, so most tourists figure it out quickly.
