Update: That time in Portugal when a roadside fix changed my whole approach

I was cycling through the hills near Lisbon when my rear brake gave out. Had to use a piece of wire from a fence to get it working. Now I think mechanics rely too much on perfect parts. Real skill is making do with what you have. That trip showed me what matters.
