Last week I sat next to a maintenance lead from Toledo at a coffee shop, and he showed me his whole system: a paper logbook and a cheap stopwatch. He said the AI scheduling tool our plant wanted would just add noise, since his crew already knows the rhythm. That stuck with me because I've spent $200 a month on fancy AI assistants that mostly create more meetings. Has anyone else found that simple tools beat the new AI stuff for actual hands-on work?

Is it possible the logbook works because the job is simple and repeatable? I ran a crew for years where the stopwatch approach failed hard once we hit custom jobs, and the AI tool caught bottlenecks we'd never seen. Paper has its place, but it can't spot the pattern that's costing you an hour every shift.
