Thought AI art was a gimmick until a 7th grader showed me her portfolio on Tuesday
I've been rolling my eyes at AI image generators for about 3 years now, figured it was just a toy for people who can't draw. Then a student in my Tuesday afternoon class pulled up Midjourney on her iPad and walked me through her whole process, the prompts, the re-rolls, the edits she made after. She's 12 and she made 40 pieces for a fantasy story she's writing, way more than she could've done by hand in that time. I still think it looks a little off in places, but I changed my mind on the whole thing being useless. Anyone else come around on this stuff after seeing a kid use it?
What did she do when the AI got something wrong that she couldn't fix with more re-rolls? I ask because that's the part I keep getting stuck on in my own head. In my experience with middle schoolers, the ones who stick with it are the ones who already had some idea of what they wanted the picture to look like before they typed anything. The AI just helps them get there faster. Take that with a grain of salt since I'm just going off the one story, but I'm curious if she hit that wall yet or if she's still in the honeymoon phase.
