I finally stopped using safety wire pliers on cotter pins
Everyone swears by the wire twisters for cotter pins on landing gear, but I had one snag and break on a King Air last Tuesday. I went back to doing them by hand with a pair of duckbills and got it done in half the time without any drama. Am I the only one who thinks those pliers are overkill for small pins?

...and it's not just cotter pins either, it's like everything these days has to have some special tool that's supposed to make life easier but just ends up adding more steps. I see it with people and their fancy kitchen gadgets too, you know? That garlic press that takes forever to clean when you could just smash a clove with the side of a knife in two seconds. Sometimes the old way is the faster way, especially when you already have the feel for it in your hands.

Man I feel this so hard. That garlic press thing is the perfect example, I swear I've spent more time picking garlic out of those stupid holes than I ever saved smashing it myself.
