Question about a weird torque stripe situation on a King Air
I was doing an annual on a King Air 200 in Boise last Tuesday and found a torque stripe on a flap actuator bolt that was perfectly aligned but the bolt itself was finger-tight. The logbook showed it was signed off as torqued and striped just 50 hours prior. What's the best way to handle this when you find a signature for work that clearly wasn't done right?

My buddy found a stripped bolt with a fresh torque stripe, and he just called the shop that signed it off.

At our shop in Billings, we have a rule to never call the other mechanic first. That puts them on the defensive. I'd document it with photos, fix the bolt, and write it up in the discrepancy log for the owner to handle. They need to know their last invoice might have paid for work that wasn't done.

Yeah, I've seen that exact thing before. Always document it with clear photos and fix it right away for safety. Let the owner decide how to handle the previous shop, since they paid the bill.
