Rant: My buddy insisted I buy a $300 commercial keypad for my home system
He swore it was bulletproof and would last forever, so I dropped the cash on a Honeywell 6160 for my own place. Two years in the screen started flickering and now half the keys don't register. Anyone else ever get burned by gear that was supposed to be top tier?

Man, I gotta say I actually disagree with you on this one. That 6160 is pretty standard in the industry and I've seen them hold up way longer than two years in rough commercial settings. Might be worth checking if you got a bad unit or if the wiring is loose, cause usually those keypads are solid.

Funny you mention that, my buddy Tom had one start acting up in his warehouse and it turned out to be a bad ground on the transformer. He swapped it out and that thing’s been fine for like four years now. Weird how that stuff happens sometimes, you know?
