My trip to Alaska left me confused about the midnight sun. Love it or hate it?

Last June, I spent a week in Anchorage. The constant daylight let me hike at midnight, which was incredible. But my travel buddy got really grumpy from lack of sleep. Some locals said they adore it, others use blackout curtains. I'm curious where you stand on this Alaskan quirk.

How useless were those hotel curtains really?

Did your buddy ever get used to the light? I was a total mess trying to sleep my first few nights up there... my cheap hotel curtains were basically useless. I get why people love it for adventure, but my body just couldn't figure out what time it was.

Ugh, I read something about how artificial light (and even constant natural light) totally wrecks your melatonin. It's not just you! I bet @piperr33 knows the pain of those sheer hotel curtains that just laugh at the midnight sun. You get that weird 3 AM energy because your body has no clue, and then you're staring at your phone light, making it all worse. My brain needs total cave darkness to even think about sleep.
