Salmon run timing threw off my whole summer fishing plan

Last month I drove up to the Kenai River with my buddy for the sockeye run, we thought we had it dialed in based on the usual mid-July peak. Turns out the water levels were way off from the warm spring, and the fish showed up almost two weeks later than we expected. We sat there for three days with nothing but a few pink salmon, and honestly the lack of action made me second-guess everything I thought I knew about reading runs up here. A local at the bait shop said she's seen this pattern before, but it's getting more common with the shifting weather, and she mentioned checking the Fish and Game daily counts more than the calendar. I ended up catching my limit a week later after we came back, but it made me wonder how many folks rely on old timetables and get burned. Has anyone else noticed the runs changing in their part of the state, or do you just stick to the spawn timing guides?
