I finally planted native grass in my backyard after years of fighting bermuda
Spent 5 summers trying to keep a perfect green lawn with a sprinkler system that ran $80 a month, but the bermuda kept taking over anyway. Switched to blue grama and buffalo grass seed last spring, hardly watered it, and now the whole yard is thick and green after monsoon season. Has anyone else given up on traditional lawns here and gone native, or am I just lazy?

$80 a month for sprinklers and it still lost to bermuda? That's wild.

Just look at how much money and water people pour into bermuda just to keep it alive. It's a high maintenance grass that turns brown if you miss one watering. The fact that it still got overtaken tells you everything about how aggressive bermuda really is. Ngl, bermuda grass is like the kudzu of lawns. It will find a way through concrete if you give it enough time. Honestly, you could spend double that on sprinklers and bermuda would still eventually take over.
