Took 15 years to realize I was tying my lanyard wrong
Been climbing for 15 years and always had my lanyard clipped to my side D-rings, thought that was standard. Then a guy I was shadowing on a big oak job in Portland pointed out it should go over my shoulder or around the trunk for better positioning. I felt like an idiot, especially since I've taught 6 apprentices that same bad habit. It totally changes your balance when you're out on a limb and trying to make a clean cut. I tried it right after and the difference was huge, no more fighting to reach. Anyone else learn a basic skill wrong for a decade before someone corrected them?

Did you at least get to teach those apprentices the right way, or are they all out there leaning sideways forever?
