PSA: Those cheap meal delivery kits cost me way more than I saved

I signed up for a $40 trial box from a meal kit company thinking I'd save on groceries. After 3 weeks, they charged me $120 because I forgot to cancel before the trial ended. The portions were tiny and the recipes took twice as long as the box said. Has anyone else had luck getting a refund from these companies?

I got charged $130 from HelloFresh a few months back for the exact same reason. Their cancellation process is pretty buried in the settings, which feels intentional. I called their customer service line and after about 20 minutes of politely insisting, they refunded me half of it. You might have better luck if you keep pushing, but dont expect a full refund since they already sent the boxes.

Yo did you have to fight them that hard just to get half back? Honestly that sounds about right for HelloFresh though, they make it such a pain to cancel on purpose. I had a similar thing happen and ended up just doing a chargeback with my bank after they refused to refund me at all. The bank actually sided with me since I had proof I canceled before the billing date. If you ever get stuck again, that might be worth trying instead of spending 20 minutes on the phone.
