Shoutout to my old neighbor for showing me the right way to ask a question online

I used to just type my whole problem into a forum box, like 'my computer is making a noise and won't turn on help please,' and then get mad when no one answered. About a year ago, my neighbor saw me doing this and said, 'Cora, you gotta give them the model number and the exact beep pattern.' So now I always start with the device name, the year I got it, and the specific error code or sound. I actually got my router fixed in 20 minutes last week because I posted 'Linksys EA6350, bought in 2020, solid red light on port 2.' Has anyone else found that being super specific like that gets you real answers faster?

Man that's so true lol. But what about when there ISN'T a clear error code or light? Like my old laptop just started running slow for no reason. Do you guys just list every single spec you can think of in that case?

Yeah, the model number thing is key. I mean, I even take a picture of any weird lights or error screens now, idk it just cuts out so much back and forth.

Totally agree. Pictures save so much time when you're trying to explain a blinking light pattern to support.
