Took me 3 hours to fix a loose faucet, plumber said 20 minutes

I was about to call a plumber for a kitchen faucet that wobbled like a loose tooth. Turns out the nut underneath was just hand-tight, needed a basin wrench and some elbow grease, but I spent 3 hours figuring that out because my cheap wrench kept slipping. Has anyone else had a simple DIY turn into a half-day ordeal over a tool you didn't own?
