My lawyer buddy said I was picking the wrong attorney for my LLC setup

I was looking to set up an LLC for my small handyman business outside Nashville. I figured any attorney could do it cheap so I went with a general practice guy I found through a friend. He charged me $800 and it took him 3 weeks to file the paperwork. Then my buddy who does corporate law told me I should have gone with a business attorney who handles LLCs all day. He was right. The first guy missed a clause about member management that could have caused issues later. I had to pay another $350 to fix it. Has anyone else made this mistake with picking the wrong type of lawyer for a simple business filing?

That's a classic mistake people make across the board, not just with lawyers. It's like going to a general doctor for a weird rash and they just tell you to put lotion on it, when really a dermatologist would've caught it was something serious right away. My buddy tried to save money on a tax guy for his side hustle and ended up with a family accountant who didn't know about the home office deduction rules. Paid twice as much later to fix it. The lesson is always go with the specialist even if it costs a bit more upfront, because the generic guy might miss the small stuff that bites you later.

Think this applies to so many things honestly. Its like when people try to save a few bucks on a plumber and get some handyman who can do basic stuff but then they mess up the pipe fittings and you end up with water damage costing way more. Same with mechanics, you take your car to some random shop to save money and they use cheap parts or dont know the specific issues your model has. People always think the simple stuff is easy until its not. The specialist has seen the edge cases a thousand times, the generalist has maybe seen it once or twice if ever. That extra time and money upfront is basically insurance against the headache later.
