Tried stacking 50 raw shots from my backyard in Phoenix and it looked awful. The trick was throwing out half of them first.

Throwing out half your data seems like a weird flex. The whole point of stacking is to average out the noise, and you need every frame you can get from a bright city. Maybe the issue was your alignment or rejection settings, not the number of shots.
