A drip only I heard saved my apartment from a flood

I always saw my hearing as a hassle, but it stopped a big problem. Maybe it's not so bad after all.

Get a cheap water alarm for next time. Put it near the water heater or under sinks. Those things scream before a drip turns into a flood. Shut off the main water line if you're going away for more than a day. Your hearing caught it this time, but a backup plan never hurts. Good catch, honestly.

My cousin in Chicago bought one of those water alarms last winter. It went off for no reason a lot, so he took out the batteries. Now he just listens for drips like you did. Those gadgets can make you stop paying attention to your home. Sometimes your own hearing is the best backup you need.
