Appreciation post: The Tuesday I just sat in the car for 20 minutes and it was great

Last month I had this Tuesday that started with a broken noise-cancelling headset and I just felt it coming, the whole day was gonna be too loud and bright. My wife suggested I just sit in the car for a bit before going into the grocery store, which I usually think is weird. I sat there with the engine off and just watched the clouds for 20 minutes, no phone or anything. That quiet reset my whole brain and I got through the store without a meltdown for the first time in months. Has anyone else found a weird little hidden spot that just works for them to decompress?

Wait, you sat in a car with the engine off for 20 minutes and your wife suggested it? That's wild, I always thought that was crazy too.

I read somewhere that your brain actually needs those little quiet pauses to process emotions otherwise it just stacks everything on top of each other. Pulling into a parking lot 15 minutes early before pickup or appointments has become my weird little ritual. It feels ridiculous but those pockets of nothing are the only thing keeping me from losing it most days.
