Choosing between a quiet classroom and a noisy one for my son's IEP meeting

Back in 2019 I had to pick a silent conference room or a busy lobby for my son's IEP meeting, and I went with the quiet one. He actually spoke up about his needs for the first time, which made the whole thing worth it - has anyone else found that room choice makes that big a difference?

Totally agree, quiet rooms are a game changer. We had my daughter's IEP in this loud cafeteria once and she just shut down, couldn't get a single word out. The next year we did a small library room and she actually pointed at things in her binder to show what she needed. It's crazy how much the environment matters for kids to feel safe enough to speak up.

Noise can be a good cover. My kid talks more in a busy room because no one's staring at him waiting for a response.
