Had a paint match disaster on a 2022 Ford in blue last month

I was at my bay in Cleveland mixing a custom blend for a rear quarter panel, and the color looked perfect under the shop lights. When we rolled the car outside, it was a full shade off in natural light. I had to redo the whole blend process, adding three extra tints over two hours to get it right. Anyone else run into this with newer metallic paints?

Metallics are always a pain but is it really a disaster? Two hours to fix a blend on a new car seems pretty standard. The lighting change thing happens to everyone, you just tweak it and move on. Calling it a disaster makes a normal shop day sound way more dramatic than it is.

Come on, @tara_williams1, two hours on a brand new car is a big deal. That's lost time and money on a job that should be straightforward. Calling it a disaster is fair when your whole schedule gets thrown off.

Lighting can really trick you on these newer blues. It's not just about the two hours, it's about the whole job getting stalled. @bettyk53 has a point about the schedule. When a simple blend turns into a full redo, it throws off the rest of your day. That's more than just a normal tweak.
