Everyone says tap to pay is the future, but my small shop saw a drop in sales after we switched.

We added a contactless reader at our coffee spot in Austin about eight months ago. Before that, we only took cards you had to swipe or chip. I checked the numbers, and our average sale went down by about $1.50 per person. I think it's because tapping is so fast people don't think about adding a pastry or another drink. With the chip, they had a few extra seconds to look at the menu. Has anyone else running a small business seen this happen?

Maybe the future just has a cheaper coffee budget. That's a wild side effect of tech making things too easy.

Wait, a coffee budget under five bucks, @avery_roberts? That's actually terrifying.

Ugh seriously though. I read somewhere that coffee prices have actually gone up like crazy in some places, so maybe that's her way of coping. Still, under five bucks sounds like instant coffee territory to me.
