Switched to chip and PIN after a fraud scare and wondering if it's actually better

A teller at my local Chase branch in Denver told me last year that chip and PIN was way more secure than signature. I brushed it off because I thought signatures were fine. Then someone cloned my debit card at a gas station in March and drained $340 before I caught it. Now I'm thinking she was right but the banks don't push it because it's more work for them. Anyone else get advice from a bank employee that ended up being spot on or totally wrong?

$340 gone in a flash, that sucks. People don't get it until it hits them.
