I was in Singapore last month and saw a book pulled from a store shelf.
It was a graphic novel about a political protest, and the clerk said it was on a list of banned imports. I mean, it was just sitting there in a normal bookstore, and then it was gone. Does that kind of thing happen a lot in other places too?

Watched the same thing happen in a mall bookstore back home. I went back the next week and asked for the book by name, acting totally clueless. The manager got real nervous and just said it wasn't available anymore, which told me everything I needed to know. Sometimes just asking a simple question out loud makes them sweat. Makes you wonder what else is on those secret lists.

Yeah, the "on a list of banned imports" thing is such a weirdly clean way to say "we don't want you reading this." I guess they have a whole department that just makes lists of stuff to quietly disappear from shelves. Happens more than people talk about, but seeing it in a normal store is next level awkward lol.

Right? It feels like they're just waiting for someone to notice and make a fuss.
