Got banned from a local Facebook group for posting about a city council vote, now I just use Nextdoor

Check if your ban actually violates the group's written rules (sometimes they're pretty vague). A lot of those local groups have admins with personal grudges who hide behind "community guidelines" to shut down anything they don't like, which is why I left Facebook groups too.

Ugh, that's the worst. I got booted from a neighborhood group for posting about a lost dog, which was literally allowed in their rules. I messaged the admin directly, kept it super polite, and just asked which rule I broke. When they couldn't point to one, they quietly let me back in. Total power trip move on their part.

My old HOA president would just make up new parking rules on the spot if he didn't like your car. It's the same thing with these online groups. The person with the keys gets to decide what the real rules are, and they change them to fit their mood. You see it at work when a manager plays favorites, or at the store when a cashier decides their line is suddenly closed. It's just people using tiny bits of power because it's all they have.
