Pro tip: I used to fight every single ban on reddit until a mod explained their side to me

About a year ago, I got banned from a local news subreddit for posting a link to a study about crime stats. I thought the mod was just power tripping so I messaged them angry stuff for 3 days straight. Eventually one mod wrote back and said they ban links because too many were from spam sites. I still think they go overboard sometimes but now I just ask why before getting mad. Has anyone else had a mod explain their reasoning and make you rethink a ban?

Did that mod actually take the time to walk you through their logic step by step? I had a similar thing happen on a gardening sub where I got banned for mentioning a specific weed killer. Turns out they had a rule against promoting chemicals because new gardeners might misuse them. Honestly it made me feel like an idiot for sending those angry messages, but at least I learned something. Tbh now I always assume there's a reason behind the ban even if I don't agree with it.

Hell yeah, that's exactly it. Most mods aren't just power tripping, they're just trying to keep the place from turning into a dumpster fire. Annoying as hell when you're on the receiving end, but usually makes sense once you see the bigger picture.
