That flag meme ban in India really got me thinking differently

I saw a meme about a local political figure get banned on Instagram last week and it took me 45 minutes just to figure out why it was removed. The caption was just a joke about traffic in Mumbai, nothing even that wild. But then I looked into Section 69A of the IT Act and realized how broad the censorship powers are there. Has anyone else dug into why certain countries have such different thresholds for what counts as 'harmful' content?

Spent an hour reading Section 69A and still can't explain it to my mom.

@the_wesley honestly it's probably not that deep. Most people just use it as a buzzword to sound smart about internet laws. Your mom probably doesn't care about government surveillance powers or blocking orders anyway. Unless you're running a political blog or something, Section 69A ain't gonna show up at your door. Why stress about explaining something that barely affects your daily life?
