Pro tip: My buddy said to just post the raw data on that forum, and it got me banned in a day.
I mean, I was on this tech forum for hobbyist data stuff, and I found some public numbers about city water usage that looked off. My friend Jake, who's on there a lot, told me, 'Just dump the spreadsheet link, man. People want the facts, not your take.' So I did exactly that last Thursday, no comment, just the link. The mods banned me within 24 hours for 'spam and low-effort posting.' Idk, maybe it's just me, but I thought sharing the source was the whole point? Turns out their rules said you have to start a discussion, not just drop a link. Has anyone else gotten hit for posting raw info without enough of their own words around it?

Classic Jake move, giving advice that works great in his head and gets everyone else in trouble. Forums have this weird need for you to perform a little data dance before you just give them the numbers. Should have posted a three paragraph theory first and hidden the link at the bottom, they love that.

It's like a weird trust ritual where showing your work matters more than the answer. Josephs49 is right about the bans, but sometimes the dance is just to avoid looking like a know-it-all. The forum wants a story, not a solution.

Jade495 nailed it with that data dance thing. I saw a guy get banned last week for posting a fix without the three page backstory first. Forums want you to act like you're figuring it out live instead of just giving the answer.
