Unpopular opinion: premium dog food brands are a total racket

I spent $80 on a bag of that fancy grain-free stuff for my lab and he got sick after three days, vet said it was the high protein content. Anyone else had a pet react badly to expensive chow?

My lab would only eat the expensive stuff and then looked at me like I poisoned him. Guess he's a cheap kibble kind of guy.

Wait, are we sure the cheap stuff is really cheaper in the long run though? I've seen a lot of people try to save money with bargain brand food only to end up with a dog that has stomach issues or needs more frequent vet visits. My lab once had a bad reaction to a cheaper brand and the vet bill was way more than I'd ever spend on the good stuff. Plus, sometimes the expensive food has higher quality ingredients that might settle better even if it doesn't look appealing to us. Not saying your dog isn't being a picky jerk, but it's worth thinking about what's actually going into the kibble, you know?
