Stripped a derailleur hanger on a trail ride outside Denver last month
I was shifting down to climb a steep gravel section when the hanger just gave out and snapped clean off. Had to walk 3 miles back to the car because I didn't bring a spare hanger. Has anyone else had luck with carrying a couple common hanger sizes in their pack?

Man, that walk of shame back to the car is the worst. I've been there with a snapped hanger in the middle of nowhere and it totally kills your whole ride. I think carrying a couple common sizes is smart, but in my experience you kind of have to look at the bigger picture. It's like how I keep a spare phone charger and a small tool kit in my car all the time now. You don't need to carry every single part, but just having a few of the most common things you'd need can save you from a really bad day. Your mileage may vary, but it's one of those little habits that builds up over time and keeps you from getting stranded.
