The 10 minute skip rule is ruining first episodes for people

I kept seeing people say they gave a show like Dark or The Leftovers 10 minutes before quitting... but those shows need like 3 episodes to set up. My buddy watched one episode of Mr. Robot and said it was boring. I made him watch 3 and now he's obsessed. If you skip a show after 10 minutes you're missing the whole point of slow burn storytelling. Has anyone else had a show that clicked only after the 3rd episode?

Told my friend they have the attention span of a goldfish with a remote and they got mad at me but seriously 10 minutes? That's barely enough time to figure out what color the main character's shirt is. I barely even unload the groceries in 10 minutes let alone decide if a whole show is worth watching. My brother-in-law tried that with The Wire and I laughed at him for like a solid minute before he finally gave it another shot. Some shows are like a good stew you gotta let them simmer not just take a sip and dump it out. People think everything needs to grab them in the first scene or its trash but that's how you miss out on the best stuff.
