Took me 3 hours to figure out I was gluing my bookcloth wrong side up
I kept getting bubbles and peeling on my last rebind project, wasted a whole afternoon trying different adhesives. Turned out I was putting the paste on the shiny side instead of the dull side, total rookie move. Anyone else have a stupid simple fix that took way too long to learn?

hmm I gotta push back on this a bit. the shiny vs dull thing gets thrown around a lot but honestly I've had way better results with the shiny side down against the board. the paste grabs differently on the shiny coating and I get way less bubbling than when I try the dull side. plus if you're using a heat press or even just a bone folder the shiny side holds structure better. might be worth trying both ways on some scraps before committing to the traditional wisdom.

Had a similar experience with book cloth. Shiny side down saved me hours of rework.
