My $30 DIY EEG headband keeps logging my afternoon naps as deep meditation sessions
So I rigged up a basic EEG with some gel electrodes and an Arduino kit last month, mostly to see if I could get raw brainwave data. Turns out the thing can't tell the difference between me actually focusing on work and me dozing off in my classroom's empty prep period. It logged a 22 minute "zen state" yesterday that was really just me drooling on a stack of ungraded essays. Anyone else's consumer BCI gear misinterpret mundane stuff like this, or am I just cursed with super sleepy alpha waves?

Got a buddy who strapped on one of those fancy Muse headsets to track his sleep stages for a week. Third night in, he wakes up to find it logged a solid 45 minutes of "deep meditation" right around when he was actually passed out cold on the couch after a double shift. The kicker is, his wife walked in and took a photo of him snoring with the headset glowing blue, mouth wide open, drool on the pillow. He tried to tell people it was some kind of lucid dreaming experiment, but the photo says otherwise. Last I heard, he's using it as a fancy nap alarm now instead of a meditation tool.
