Reading neural signals beat alpha waves for my focus issues, debating now
I tried two BCI approaches for my attention problems over the last 6 months: slow alpha-wave training with a Muse headband and a direct neural signal reader from a local startup in Austin. The alpha setup felt like guessing, it took 20 sessions and I got vague feedback. The direct reader, using motor imagery tasks, gave me clear markers within 5 tries and my focus improved noticeably. Does anyone else think raw signal decoding is just better than trying to game brain rhythms, or am I missing something about the simplicity of alpha?

Alpha training always felt like trying to steer a car by watching the road in a foggy mirror. The feedback lags, and you are never sure if you are actually changing anything or just getting lucky. Motor imagery gave me a real signal I could see spike in real time, like flipping a light switch instead of waiting for a dimmer to warm up. Raw decoding wins for me, no contest. Alpha is just cheaper and easier to sell to people who want a simple app.
