Saw a huge shift in my brick color after I switched to a new water source on site

After 15 years using the same municipal water for mixing, I tried rainwater from a cistern on a job in Austin and the final wall came out noticeably darker and more uniform - has anyone else seen their mortar or brick change like that based on water quality?

Rainwater? That's a wild variable I never would have thought to mess with on a job. Austin water must be doing something weird if collected rain makes that much of a difference.

I mean, I've made plenty of mistakes on site but never managed to blame the water before, guess I've been missing out
