I found out hotel breakfast buffets are way cheaper if you bring your own Tupperware
So last month I was staying at a Holiday Inn in Cleveland for a wedding. I noticed the breakfast buffet was $15 per person, which seemed like a lot for some eggs and cereal. Then I saw a guy filling a small container with yogurt and fruit to take for later. I asked the front desk about it later and they said as long as you're a guest, you can take food from the buffet for later in the day. This got me thinking about how much money you can save on lunch if you grab extra at breakfast. Has anyone else tried this at other hotels or chains?

Lean into it and bring a small cooler next time. I did this at a Marriott in Chicago and saved like $40 on lunch for three days easy.

Hey that's actually a solid idea. I was reading something the other day about how people are getting creative with hotel breakfasts to cut costs, and packing a small cooler for lunch meat and cheese came up a lot. I guess it depends on the hotel though. Some places have mini fridges in the room but not all of them keep things cold enough, you know? I've heard mixed things about Marriott properties specifically, some are fine with it and others might give you a weird look if they see you walking through the lobby with a cooler. But if it worked for you in Chicago, that's good to know. Your mileage may vary depending on the front desk staff.

Funny how we're all figuring out these little workarounds for things that used to be straightforward. Reminds me of how people now bring their own bags to the grocery store or order water at restaurants instead of soda. It's like everyone's quietly learned you can save a surprising amount by just asking what's actually allowed instead of assuming you can't do something.
