TIL you can book a train ticket from Rome to Florence for under 15 euros
I was on a bus in Madrid and overheard a student talking about booking regional trains in Italy directly through the Trenitalia website a month ahead. I tried it for a trip next spring and got a ticket for 12 euros instead of the usual 50. Has anyone found similar deals on other European train routes?

The real trick is checking for those super early morning or late evening trains. They're often half the price of the midday ones, even on the same day. I missed a cheap fare once because I only looked at times I thought were convenient. Now I search the whole schedule and just plan my day around the cheap ticket. It takes a bit more work but saves a ton.
