Hit my first $10k in savings last week. Never thought I'd get there.

Been scraping by for years as a delivery driver. $10k is three months of rent for me. Feels like a real safety net. What was your first big milestone that made you feel secure?

Hit my first $10k in savings" - that's cute, but cash loses value sitting in a bank. You're basically watching inflation eat your safety net for breakfast.

Agreed that inflation is real but 10k in savings is still a solid milestone. Not everybody's ready to gamble their emergency fund on the stock market or crypto just to beat inflation by a percent or two. Peace of mind having cash on hand is worth something too. If your roof leaks or your car dies tomorrow, that savings is way more useful than a few extra points in an index fund. You can always move some of it later, but having nothing saved is a lot scarier than watching a little bit get eaten up.
