My grocery bill dropped $40 after I stopped buying pre-cut veggies
I used to grab those bags of pre-chopped onions and peppers every week cause I was lazy. Back in March I started buying whole veggies instead and chopping them myself on Sunday. It took maybe 20 extra minutes but my weekly grocery total went from about $85 down to $45 on average. The biggest saver was whole carrots vs baby carrots - like $1 for a bag vs $4 for the tiny ones. Anyone else notice how much they charge for convenience stuff at the store?

Oh my god, @the_tara I feel your pain on that knife situation. My friend Jenna tried the whole "save money on pre-cut veggies" thing last fall and she ended up slicing her finger so bad she had to go to urgent care for stitches. She was trying to chop a butternut squash, which is basically a brick with a skin on it, and the knife slipped right off. The whole bag of pre-cut squash is like $5 but her urgent care copay was $75 plus she couldn't use her hand for a week. She still buys the pre-cut stuff now and just calls it her "safety fee" for not losing a digit.

Tbh the whole "pre-cut veggies are a scam" thing hit me hard when I realized I was paying $4 for a tiny bag of chopped onions when a whole onion costs like 80 cents. Ngl I still buy the pre-cut stuff sometimes though because I'm a disaster with a knife. I cut myself literally every single time I try to chop a carrot. Last week I bandaged my finger mid onion dice and just sat there crying over the cutting board like a complete fool. But yeah the savings are real if you can handle not bleeding on your ingredients.
