Serious question, are we letting software run our operations instead of our brains?
It feels like every new tool is supposed to fix everything, but half the time, a simple chat clears up more issues. We set up a fancy project management system and now spend more time updating it than actually working.

That line about spending more time updating the system than working hits hard. I see it the opposite way though. The software isn't running the show, it's just showing us how broken our process already was. A messy meeting gets turned into messy data in the tool. We set up a simple rule that if something takes less than five minutes to discuss in the hall, we don't put it in the system. The tool works for the clear, big stuff, and our brains handle the quick chat. It's about forcing the software to fit how we actually work, not the other way around.

Love that five minute rule, it's genius. My team tried something similar but we spent more time arguing about what counted as five minutes than we ever saved. Sometimes the cure for process is just a little less process, you know?

Ryanhill's idea to only put big stuff in the system makes sense. We often forget that tools are just tools, not solutions. From what I've seen, setting clear rules like that cuts down on busywork. It lets people focus on real work instead of updating dashboards.
