A broken bone guard showed me why I switched to a new steel mesh apron

For years I wore a standard chainmail apron, thinking it was enough. Then a beef rib bone snapped and a sharp piece shot straight through a weak link during a busy Saturday shift. I switched to a steel mesh apron from a company called Armadillo about six months ago, and the difference is real. The weave is tighter and it feels like actual armor. Has anyone else made a switch after a close call?

That's a brutal wake-up call. Glad you found something that actually works. Some gear just isn't worth the risk.

Wait, what gear are we talking about?

Well, "brutal wake-up call" is putting it mildly. A piece of beef rib turning into a shank aimed at your gut is not the kind of lunch special anyone orders. I guess that old apron was more like a suggestion of safety than the real deal. Good on you for getting actual armor, because playing human pincushion is a terrible job perk. Some of that old gear feels like it was made more for looks than for stopping a surprise bone attack.
